October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and today I am excited to share a way YOU can make a difference in the progress of finding a cure. Has breast cancer affected your life or someone you love? Today I will share how doing a simple act such as baking a cupcake can make a difference as well as how breast cancer impacted my life.
A cupcake can help find a cure, you may ask? Let me tell you more.
As a natural born worrier, I can remember worrying about whether I would get breast cancer or not as a young child. Today I still hold some fear for the real risk breast cancer poses. With humbleness and gratitude I can say breast cancer has not affected my body personally, but it did affect a dear friend of mine.

This beautiful friend, pictured above, is the epitome of love and joy. Amanda is a daughter, sister, mom, wife, friend and business owner. My friend is the type of person who’s smile lights up a room and her positive energy penetrates you to the core. I admire this woman. This woman is a survivor from breast cancer but much more she is an AMAZING human.
I can remember where I was when I heard she was ill. I was pregnant with my third child resting on the couch. When I heard the news I cried. I have known Amanda since we were kids in high school. As a mother, I couldn’t imagine finding out I have breast cancer and the fear especially my children might carry. My heart broke and it was then my nightly prayers always included my lovely friend.
Fast forward a few years and she is doing well (not without some trials) and CANCER FREE!
I asked her a few questions about her experience getting diagnosed with breast cancer and this is what she shared:
Simple Acres: How has having breast cancer changed your life?
Amanda: Cancer has forever changed my life in so many ways. In a way, it feels like I was given a gift as I now see everyday as a true blessing and I am overwhelmed with joy and love. I treasure every day. Cancer has given me a completely different perspective on life.
Simple Acres: What have you learned on your journey through cancer and now recovery?
Amanda: I have learned that you never know what tomorrow has to bring. I have also learned to enjoy the present and not sweat the small stuff.
Simple Acres: What is one thing you want us all to know?
Amanda: You are never to young to get breast cancer and to ALWAYS listen to your intuition. Also, you are stronger than you think you are!
What amazing perspective…huh?! Amanda inspires me to not live in fear of breast cancer, she inspires me to be proactive and she inspires me to be a better person. If you ever met Amanda you would experience one of the kindest, most joy filled and loving person you have ever met.
Some day I hope to carry half of the qualities my sweet friend does.
Will you join me friends in celebrating and supporting our loved ones affected by breast cancer?
