Who enjoys decorating? Home decor is one of my favorite things. During the holidays I love to create a story in every nook and cranny of my farm house. If you have been following Simple Acres for awhile you may have noticed my love for all things vintage and rustic. My Rustic Decor Tray DIY is a simple project is the perfect accent to your holiday decor.
There are so many fun ways to celebrate this season. We have been having fun playing in the snow, baking cookies and watching Christmas movies together.
Often you will find me on the weekends decorating my home while making some new project. When I received the opportunity to use a new Black & Decker cordless drill to share my latest decor project I was beyond thrilled. I must say a great drill is one of my favorite DIY tools.
Rustic Decor Tray DIY Materials
- old rustic wood ( I used old up-cycled wood fencing)
- 1 1/4″ screws
- skill saw
- Hand sander
Rustic Decor Tray DIY
- Cut boards to your preferred length. I created my tray by about 24″ by 24″ .
- Once boards are cut align them together. Two boards cut the length of the soon to be tray must be cut and placed on top of the boards. One on the rest and left side.
- Screw each board to the back boards to connect the whole piece together.
- Use the hand sander to sand the edges of the tray to your preferences.
Watch the video below to view instruction in more detail and get decor inspiration once it is created.
These trays could serve as a base to a centerpiece on a table or as a base for decor on an ottoman as I created it for.
I created some beautiful fresh cranberry votive holders, gathered some of my latest vintage finds, a mirror and created a holiday display. This tray could also serve as the perfect place for Santa’s letters, cookies and milk.
I love creating simple things to add character to my space. I hope you liked my Rustic Decor Tray DIY. For more fun DIY project and gift ideas for this season click here.

Love the tray! Great job and that drill looks like a powerhouse.
It is a great drill. Definitely a tool I am keeping all to myself. hehe
That looks awesome! I love all things rustic. I’d probably use the vacuum to clean up either my kids’ messes or our craft messes (I do DIY projects a lot!).
Those both sound like wonderful and great reasons to need one of these great vacuums!
Love the tray… perfect for the Holidays! My family is moving the day after Christmas and we could really use a Vacuum cleaner!
Good luck on the move and crossing fingers you are one of the big winners! xo
I love how you layered the rustic wood with the glamorous mirror! What a striking, elegant contrast.
Thank you and my Black and Decker drill rocked with this simple DIY project! Thanks for following along! XO

Everything looks so festive and fun. The vacuum would be nice to clean up all the little messes we have at Christmas!!
We know how you love to vacuum Rita! You would love winning this one!
A cordless vacuum would be wonderful for quick cleanups of pine needles and pet fur on floors for guests dropping by! Love the tray you made and how easy it looks! Feel like I could do it!
Jill you totally could! I want the cordless vacuum too!
In the early days of my crafting business my first drill was a Black and Decker. They have become sleeker and lighter today. The vacuum would come in quite handy as I am embarking on a new business endeavor. Going to offer my Montana home 20 minutes from Glacier Park West entrance as a vacation rental. In cleaning after renters leave the vacuum would offer me a lightweight cleaning tool which would serve many purposes. I would love to own one.
Almost every home I’m in these days needs one of these trays. Easy to make and so many good uses. I like to use mine to carry multiple things from place to place. My sister uses hers on top of her ottoman to hold remotes and drinks.
I love to hear that!
I love drills! I have never used a black & decker, I will check it out. Your tray is beautiful and I love you up-cycled it from a wood fence! 🙂
What a cool idea. I wish we could make things like this. I would make rustic pieces for photographing for my blog!
I mostly like craft things, especially on my home decor. This one is cool and it looks easy to make!
I really love your DIY Tray, rustic is my style and I want to try to make this as well.
This is such a great idea. You could really use it all year long and change out what you top it with. I think it would also work great for blog picts.
A cordless vacuum will greatly help for that quick cleanup before and after the Holidays especially after having company with kids and pets around. Like the format and layout of the blog.
I think that’s really lovely! Rustic decor makes any home feel more cozy. I love it! Thanks for the tutorial as well!
That is so amazing that you made that. I’ve always been a little scared of my drill (but I am a daughter of a carpenter). Maybe I should get my father to give me some lessons!
Don’ be afraid it is fun!
This tray is adorable! I love the rustic look of it and need something like this in my home.
It is so easy to make! Thank you.
I love Christmas decorating at home, that’s the only holiday I decorate. Love what you’ve done with that rustic decor tray.
Thank you!
I love this!! It turned out so beautifully – I need to make something similar! In LOVE!
I do love rustic decor and wish I had the creativity to make something at home instead of always purchasing things. Love this DIY
